How to Create a new Prescription

Guide to prescribing Medication and sending Prescriptions via Aeon.

Instructions

There are two ways to create Prescriptions: Within a Chart Note and via the Medications tab of the Patient Profile.

🔐 Only Practitioners can create Chart Notes.  

Create Prescriptions within Chart Notes (Embeds)

1. Open the Patient Profile

2. Click Charting

3. Create/open your Chart Note

4. Within the Chart Note, start to type /prescription and choose from the dropdown:

5. Start to type in the name of the drug and choose it from the list:

6. Fill in (and/or modify) the required fields

7. Click Create

8. Click Confirm when you are satisfied that everything is correct

You will be taken to the Prescriptions sub-tab, where you will see a preview of the Prescription (don't worry, your chart note is saved in draft).

On the right-hand side, you can find options to:

  • View and add comments to the Timeline
  • Print
  • Fax
  • Download
  • Re-Prescribe
  • Send to Pharmacy via Preferred Pharmacy:  If the patient has indicated a preferred pharmacy and it is linked to their patient profile, you will see it here.  You can click Fax Prescription to send it, or you can choose a different pharmacy.  Click here to learn how to set up Preferred Pharmacies.

If you choose to fax it to the preferred pharmacy, you'll see a pop-up letting you know the fax is in the queue.  

To determine if the fax was successful, you can expand the Timeline to see this information:

Create Prescriptions from Medications Tab

1. Open the Patient Profile

2. Click on Medications sub-tab

3. Click New Prescription

4. Start typing the name in the Search field, and it will populate

5. Choose the appropriate drug from the list

6. Fill in (and/or modify) the required fields

7. Click Create

Once you've created the Prescription, you will see it on your screen.  On the right-hand side, you will see several options where you can:

  • View and add comments to the Timeline
  • Print
  • Fax
  • Download
  • Re-Prescribe
