Practitioner Foundation Practice Exercises

Suggested PreRequisites:

1. To complete this practice exercise, you must use an Aeon Trial Account. We provide these during trials or onboarding.

2. It is best if this exercise is completed after Practitioner Foundations Training Session 2.

3. All assets (cards) referred to are provided by Aeon Support. Contact us if you don't have them or require an updated copy.

This is an optional exercise you can do to get more practice!

STORY

The specialist’s response has been received for Nancy Needle’s ophthalmology concern. During the follow-up, Nancy’s parent also reports that she has appeared unusually pale and has had a reduced appetite.

OBJECTIVE

Review the Consult, document the follow-up in a new Chart Note, create a laboratory Requisition, assign follow-up work, and update the Consult status.

Step Task to Complete
1 Download and review the Dr. Patel Pediatric Consultation Report
2 Open Consults in left side-bar
3 Locate Nancy Needle’s high-priority Consult with the status Results Received
4 Open the Consult and review the original reason for referral
5 Use the patient link to open Nancy’s Patient Profile
6 Review the Ophthalmology Concern Issue
7 Start a new Chart Note titled Specialist Report Review
8 Add a short note confirming that Dr. Patel’s report was reviewed

Document the following findings and recommendations:

  • Intermittent left esotropia
  • Pediatric ophthalmology assessment recommended within four to six weeks
  • Mild pallor and reduced appetite
  • CBC and ferritin recommended
10 Link the Ophthalmology Concern Issue to the Chart Note
11 Create a new Consult in the Chart Note
12 Choose the Ophthalmology Service Type
13 You notice that there are no Ophthalmology Facilities in your Aeon account

Create a General Task for STAFF to add Acme Pediatric Ophthalmology to Aeon so that it can be chosen.  They should do so and send out the Consult when complete.

  • The task should be a High Priority with a due date of today
  • Star the Task to follow it
15 Include the following reason for referral:

Intermittent left esotropia requiring formal assessment and cycloplegic refraction
16 Connect the Ophthalmology Concern Issue to the Consult
17 Link the report from Dr. Patel to the Consult
18 In the Chart Note, add a Requisition

Create a Laboratory Requisition for:

  • Hematology profile
  • Ferritin
20 Enter the following clinical information:

Pallor and reduced appetite; assess for iron deficiency
21 Review the print, download, and fax options
22 For this training scenario, assume the Requisition was faxed
23 Update the Requisition status to Pending Results
24 Sign and Save the Chart Note
25 Return to the original Consult from Dr. Patel
26 Update its status from Results Received to Completed
27 Confirm that the following are visible in Nancy’s Patient Profile:
  • New pediatric ophthalmology Consult
  • Laboratory Requisition with the status Pending Results
  • Signed Chart Note
  • Original Dr. Patel Consult with the status Completed
28 Update the status of the Appointment to Completed

By completing this exercise, you now understand that:

  • A Consult is used when referring a patient to another provider
  • A Requisition is used when ordering a test
  • Consult and Requisition statuses show where each item is in its lifecycle
  • Tasks created in the moment ensure nothing gets lost
  • A new Chart Note documents decisions made after receiving a specialist report
