Practitioner Foundation Practice Exercises
Suggested PreRequisites:
1. To complete this practice exercise, you must use an Aeon Trial Account. We provide these during trials or onboarding.
2. It is best if this exercise is completed after Practitioner Foundations Training Session 1.
3. All assets (cards) referred to are provided by Aeon Support. Contact us if you don't have them or require an updated copy.
Please remember that this is a generic example of what a practitioner might do in a given day. It is meant to allow you to become more comfortable with Aeon's features.
Sarah Sampson: Morning Start and Chart Note Creation

Sarah Sampson has arrived for her appointment. Reception has checked her in. |

OBJECTIVE |
Use Tasks and the Calendar to review the day, open Sarah’s appointment, review relevant patient information, start a Chart Note, use free text and an embeds, finalize the Chart Note at the end of the visit. |

💡You may have noticed that if you completed a File Review Task and clicked "Accepted and Next" you did not see a "Next", and instead were moved back to the main Tasks page. This is because there are no further File Review Tasks left to finish. If there were more than one, then you'd see the next in the list.

Start a new Chart Note |

🚀 By Following the Clinic Day Start card and creating the Chart Note from within the Calendar Appointment, you have properly linked the appointment to the Chart Note. In the new Chart Note, you'll see the appointment linked in the top right and a title has been filled in for you.

Now you will create a SOAP note for the appointment. You have two options: 1. Click the Templates link above the Chart Note and choose SOAP Note. Then fill in some details yourself. 2. Copy and paste the note below into the Chart Note: S: Reports worsening depression. Sertraline causing unwanted side effects O: Alert and oriented. Mood low. No acute distress A: Depression — symptoms worsening; Sertraline not tolerated P:

Based on the information from the appointment in the SOAP note, Link any appropriate items from her history to the Chart Note (from the right side-bar) - no need to create new embeds yet |

🚀 By linking the Depression Issue to the Chart Note, you will create a relationship between that Issue and today's notes. Later in the appointment you will deal with her medication for depression. |

Sarah is currently taking Sertraline, but it is not agreeing with her. Mark the Sertraline Medication as Discontinued. |

🎓 Tip: You need to add the Medication embed for Sertraline from the right side-bar to the chart note and then find the Discontinued option. |

Create a new Prescription as an embed, for a different medication for her depression. Don't fax it out, but download it for Sara to take it with her. |

To return to the Chart Note when you are on the Prescription page, click the "Back to Chart Note" link at the bottom left of the screen.

💡 It's not common for you to leave the note, and look for the Task that was created for you, then right away return to the note. These steps are to give you the opportunity to see how this functionality works to stop things from falling through the cracks.

✏️ After saving the Chart Note you realize you forgot to create the Immunization embed in the Chart Note. You will create it now but from the Immunizations sub-tab of the Patient Profile instead of in a Chart Note.

🎉 Congrats! You've successfully taken a patient through an appointment while logging all the information in Aeon! By finishing this scenario, you now understand that:
- Appointment statuses are editable, giving you a quick visual snapshot of where each patient is in their visit.
- Appointment Details (right-side panel) show key information at a glance, including visit reason, timing, and shortcuts to the chart.
- Starting a Chart Note from the Appointment links the Appointment to the Chart Note and is a simple click.
- A patient’s profile centralizes their full medical story - past notes, issues, medications, allergies, labs, and files, so you can review everything quickly before the visit starts.
