Measurements: An Overview

Measurements are a handy tool for keeping track of patient data, like vital signs and clinical metrics. They let you see historical trends, making it easier to make informed decisions. You can easily create, edit, and archive these measurements, and view them in various areas of the application.

 

Some common tasks you will perform with this feature include:

    • Record and edit measurements for the patient including:
      • Blood Pressure
      • BMI
      • Heart Rate
      • Height
      • Temperature
      • Weight
    • Create new measurements from the chart, index, or documents
    • View and comment on the measurement’s timeline
    • Archive measurements or individual records

You can find this feature right in the clinician's workflow during patient visits, accessed through:


A. Chart Notes: to be created and edited during patient encounters
B. Measurement Index: consolidated view of all patient measurements with the ability to create and edit measurements
C. Patient Sidebar: for quick access to recent measurements during patient interactions
D. Documents View: Enables measurement creation directly from document workflows

 


 

Use 

Below, we will cover all the features of and how to use Measurements.

 


 

View a Patient's Measurements

1. Open the Patient Chart.

2. See the Measurements in the right-hand sidebar.

3. Click on Measurements sub-tab.

To then view the specifics of a particular Measurement:

5. Click the name of the Measurement to expand it.

6. Note the three icons to the right of the Medication:  Timeline, Archive, and Edit.

 


 

Create Measurements

1. Open the Patient Chart.

2. Click on Measurements sub-tab.

3. Click New Measurement.

4. Enter the information. Note that after you choose the "Type" the "Unit" field will be prepopulated based on the type chosen.  In some cases, there will be multiple options.  For example, if you choose the type "Height" then the "Unit" field will repopulate with the choice of cm or in.

5. Click Create.

 


 

Edit a Measurement

 

1. Open the Patient Chart.

2. Click on Measurements sub-tab.

3. Find the Measurement you wish to edit.

4. Click on the name of the Measurement.

5. Click on the Edit icon to the right of the Measurement.

6. Make your changes.

7. Click Update.

 


 

Archive a Measurement

Instead of deleting Measurements, Aeon gives you the ability to archive Measurements, which removes it from active view.  These archived Measurements can be viewed or restored if desired.

1. Open the Patient Chart.

2. Click on Measurements sub-tab.

3. Find the Measurement you wish to archive.

4. Click on the name of the Measurement.

5. Click on the archive icon to the right of the Measurement.

6. View the confirmation message about Archiving the Medication.

7. Click Confirm.

 


 

View Archived Measurements

1. Open the Patient Chart.

2. Click on Measurements sub-tab.

3. Click the line "Show # Archived Measurement" (located under the list of your Measurements.

4. Click on the name of the Measurement to see the details.

 


 

Restore an Archived Measurement

1. Open the Patient Chart.

2. Click on Measurements sub-tab.

3. Click the line "Show # Archived Measurement" (located under the list of your Measurements.

4. Click on the name of the Measurement to see the details.

5. Click the Unarchive icon to the right of the Medication.

 


 

Measurements Limitations

These are topics that we are aware of and working to address in the future:

  • Alerts for abnormal ranges
  • Demographic-based reference guides for vital signs
  • Growth charts and calculators (e.g., body mass, pregnancy)
  • Graphs for results over time
  • AI to assist with trends over time and flag recordings out of range for patient
  • Templates for customized data collection and frequency tracking
  • Support integrations with connected personal devices (e.g., Apple Watch, health apps)


 

Current Measurements Issues

These are current issues that we are aware of:

  • Manual entry for measurements from documents/labs
  • Missing Excelleris integration
  • No alerts for out-of-range values
