Description
Excelleris is a Canadian health information exchange that delivers clinical reports from participating healthcare organizations directly to electronic medical records.
The Excelleris integration allows your clinic to receive reports electronically in Aeon. Reports may come from laboratories, hospitals, medical imaging providers, specialists, or other participating healthcare organizations.
Unlike standard faxed documents, Excelleris reports include structured information that allows Aeon to automatically:
- Match the report to a patient
- Match the report to a practitioner
- Categorize the report
- Display supported report types using structured layouts
- Extract supported laboratory results into the patient’s Measurements history
This reduces manual processing and makes clinical information available throughout the Patient Profile.

How the Excelleris-Aeon Integration Works
Excelleris delivers clinical reports to Aeon regardless of who originally requested the test or service.
Your clinic may receive a report because:
- A practitioner at your clinic created the original requisition
- Another practitioner copied your clinic or one of your practitioners on the report
- A patient received care or testing during a hospital visit
- Another participating healthcare organization sent the report to your clinic
Report workflow
- Receive a clinical report through Excelleris A participating healthcare organization sends the report electronically through Excelleris
- Deliver the report to Aeon Excelleris sends the report and its structured information to Aeon
- Match the patient and practitioner Aeon attempts to match the report to an existing patient and practitioner
When Aeon finds a match
- Aeon adds the report to the patient’s Files
- Aeon categorizes the report
- Aeon creates a File Review Task for the practitioner
- Aeon adds supported structured laboratory results to the patient’s Measurements history
Matched Excelleris reports do not require staff to process them through the Inbox. The practitioner receives the report through their File Review Tasks.
When Aeon cannot find a match
- Aeon sends the report to the Inbox
- Staff review and triage the report
- Staff link the report to the appropriate patient and practitioner
- Aeon creates a File Review Task for the assigned practitioner
🎓 Training Tip: Requisitions
A report does not need to begin with a requisition created in Aeon. Your clinic may receive reports requested or sent by other healthcare providers.

🎓 Training Tip: Organizations That Do Not Use Excelleris
Not all healthcare organizations participate in Excelleris. Reports from organizations that do not use Excelleris may arrive by fax and follow your clinic’s standard Inbox triage process.

Supported Report Types
Excelleris can deliver many types of clinical reports from participating healthcare organizations.
Depending on the sending organization, your clinic may receive:
- Laboratory results
- Medical imaging reports
- Pathology reports
- Cardiology reports
- Consultation reports
- Hospital reports
- Discharge summaries
- Other supported clinical reports, notes, and consultations
The reports available to your clinic depend on the healthcare organizations participating in the Excelleris network. Some reports may continue to arrive by fax and follow your clinic’s manual triage process.
Extraction of Data from Reports and Creation of Measurements
Only structured laboratory results received through Excelleris automatically populate the patient’s Measurements history.
Other report types received through Excelleris do not automatically create Measurements. These may include:
- Consultation reports
- Medical imaging reports
- Hospital reports
- Discharge summaries
- Other non-laboratory reports
Faxed documents also do not automatically create Measurements.
Where appropriate, staff or practitioners must manually add Measurements from these reports to the patient’s Measurements history.
Setup
⚠️ Important Note: Begin the Excelleris setup process well before your planned go-live date. Review, validation, and configuration can take up to four weeks.
Launchpad is a separate Excelleris product. Your clinic does not need Launchpad simply to receive Excelleris reports within Aeon. Excelleris can deliver reports through its Launchpad portal or directly to an integrated EMR such as Aeon.
Step 1: Contact Excelleris
- Contact Excelleris to configure electronic report delivery for your clinic
- Tell Excelleris that your clinic uses or is moving to Aeon
If your clinic already receives reports through Excelleris, ask Excelleris to update your delivery configuration.
If your clinic is new to Excelleris, Excelleris will guide you through registration and setup.
Step 2: Complete Excelleris Onboarding
- Complete the registration and authorization forms provided by Excelleris
- Provide the requested clinic and practitioner information
Excelleris reviews the submitted information and configures your clinic and participating practitioners.
📝 Practitioners Who Work at Multiple Clinics
Tell Excelleris and Aeon when a practitioner works at more than one clinic. Excelleris may require separate configuration for each clinic so reports are delivered to the correct location.
Step 3: Allow Excelleris to Activate the Connection
- Wait for Excelleris to complete its review and configuration
- Collect any provider configuration, certificate, or login information supplied by Excelleris
The information provided depends on your clinic’s configuration and the services being activated.
Step 4: Contact Aeon Support
- Contact Aeon Support after Excelleris confirms that its setup is complete
- Provide the configuration information supplied by Excelleris
Aeon Support will complete the remaining integration steps in Aeon.
Your clinic will begin receiving electronic reports after Excelleris and Aeon complete the required configuration.
